Optimization of the Electrocoagulation Process with Aluminum Electrodes for Rainwater Treatment

Rainwater collected in the Toluca region of Mexico with a pH 6.25 was treated an electrochemical process, and efficiency two supporting electrolytes were compared, one food grade (sea salt) other reagent (sodium sulfate). In first stage, rainwater characterized to detect COD content, turbidity, metals such as zinc, iron, aluminum, lead. Electrocoagulation treatment performed cell using aluminum electrodes study effect on well removal heavy present. The results obtained response surface methodology central composite design reveal that optimal conditions electrocoagulation current density 3.26 mA/cm 2 time 11.38 min. Using sodium sulfate, percentage turbidity is 99.27% 70.83%. use sea salt support electrolyte these allowed at 100%, Al Mn 84.29%, Zn 97.97%, Pb 46%, Fe 21%. Energy costs are low lead proven savings when this system, indicating option both improve be able make it safely.
